Match Affinity is a hugely popular matchmaking website, brought to the market by the market-leading e-company behind Match.com, our No. 1 rated site in the online dating category. Designed to take the hard work out of online dating, Match Affinity offers users the opportunity to ditch the arduous searching and browsing through incompatible profiles for a more scientific approach to dating online. Using the specially designed psychometric and attribute ‘personality’ test, users can draw up a profile of themselves (and their perfect partner) and then use the automatic matching services of Match Affinity to select the perfect matches from the range of available users in your area. As this site comes from the makers of Match.com, a site of considerable quality, we can safely assume that it will offer users a great and well-managed alternative to traditional forms of online dating. The ethos of Match Affinity is summed up on the site’s homepage, where it notes that, ‘On Match Affinity, we look at what makes you the person you are: your values, the way you live your life and the way you interact with others... and then we show you the people to whom we think you are well suited. You don't need to search through a database of millions of members: we will suggest highly compatible matches for you!’.
This all sounds wonderfully simple, and in all honesty, it really is. In reviewing Match Affinity, as with all of our reviews, we took the time to create a profile and go through the same steps a regular user would take in order to properly examine what being a member of Match Affinity is really like. We were pretty excited by the unique and comprehensive approach to testing that was taken by Match Affinity, with all users completing the same, extensive questionnaire in order to determine their major personality traits and desirable characteristics in a partner. This questionnaire took around 30 minutes to complete properly, and while this may seem like a long time compared to some of the other sites we have reviewed, the real success of Match Affinity is in how comprehensive this questionnaire actually is. Aside from the usual questions that we expected, relating to the sorts of activities favored by the user, or what their favorite food was, the questionnaire also delves a little deeper, encouraging the member to think a little harder about precisely what sort of person they really are.
The questionnaire is skillfully crafted, asking a varied range of questions in a number of forms. We particularly liked the ‘slider’ questions, where users have to place a marker along a sliding scale in response to a short question or statement. As these questions demand a little more thought than a standard ‘yes’ or ‘no’ response, they help the affinity test to determine what sort of a person you really are. Similarly, the use of picture-based questions (asking which image a user prefers, for example) helps to break up the monotony and helps keep the testing process interesting. The one thing we would say, is that users who are impatient or don’t wish to devote that much time to completing the questionnaire will not find the Match Affinity model particularly useful. Unlike other sites, where users can choose when to fill out sections of their profiles (and can thus leave such lengthy questionnaires until they have time to complete them), users of Match Affinity must complete the whole affinity test in one sitting. Whilst for most users this won’t prove too much of a problem, it is worth bearing in mind.
Once you have completed your Match Affinity personality test, the site automatically compares your responses to the test to those of all other users (especially those in your area) and compiles a list of members with whom you are potentially compatible. This list is ‘live’, in the sense that when new members join the site and take the personality test, their results are instantly compared to your responses. This means you always have access to an up to date list of those members with whom you are ideally compatible. We were also impressed by the way in which this list is displayed, allowing users to clearly see the precise percentage compatibility they have with another user, with the option to filter and narrow results based on a number of customizable criteria.
If the automatically selected results don’t return any interesting profiles, however, users of Match Affinity also have the option to use a traditional search function (based on the same feature within Match.com) to find a match the old fashioned way. We liked the fact that users had the option whether to rely on the automated matching service, or to search for themselves, especially as this addresses the reality that a user’s priority may not always be based on being perfectly matched on personality. Indeed, if a user wishes to search through other users based on their appearance, and not their personality, then a standard search function gives users the capacity to do so. Users of Match Affinity also have access to a range of additional features that help to make the process of finding the ideal partner online a little easier. Users have access to a range of customizable lists (a blocked list, a favorites list and a list of previously viewed profiles) that help to manage interactions with other users. Users can also avail of a range of coaching resources (relating to dating and relationships), with real counselors, both online through videos and by phone. In contacting other users, members can make use of a fantastic in-site message centre complete with contact list (which updates to include those members with whom you regularly correspond).
Match Affinity is a fantastic example of an online matchmaking service. The site provides users with the opportunity to be perfectly matched with other users (on the basis of genuine personality compatibility) with the intention of helping to form permanent, long-lasting relationships. Whilst this site is certainly not the cheapest dating site option we have reviewed (at £14 a month, at its cheapest), it does provide a high-quality, highly regarded matchmaking service with an obvious focus on customer satisfaction.
If you would like to give Match Affinity a go, the site offers a free trial option where users can avail of site features completely free of charge for a limited period of time.
