I have been a full member of this site for about an hour now, but I feel that I have been duped.

I must have missed the small print where it pointed out that you cannot even perform a basic search! That's right, you're stuck with whatever 'matches' the site comes up with for you, and does not take into account any personal preferences you may have. How ridiculous is that for a dating site?

Okay, so here's the rundown:

- You start building your profile by answering a very thorough series of questions. Although the results are never completely accurate, I do like having these extra resources to compliment each profile. This is one thing the site does well.

- You then complete your profile by adding a personal statement, along with a photo if you wish. However, you may also choose to keep your photo(s) hidden, and only allow people you're interested in to view them, which is what most people seem to choose. Personally, I don't understand this feature, as it discourages the photos being displayed at all. (So when you're looking at your matches, all you see are rows of blurred out photos that are available only when you contact the other person. I don't like the idea of asking someone if I can view their photo, and then wondering how they feel if I decide not to follow up after seeing it.)

- The cheapest membership option is over £70, which lasts for three months. I think this is pricey to join any site, and a one-month option would offer far more value.

- The site allows you to keep track of the number of people who have viewed your profile, the people who have listed you among their favourites, and the people who have shown you their photos. This is standard for most sites.

Anyway, after receiving several messages and more than 40 people showing me their photos (which I could not view until I became a member), I decided to join. I spent a few minutes looking through the people who were interested in me, but there was no one that even remotely appealed to me, (and this is partly due to the flawed matching system mentioned earlier).

Pretty much all the people who contacted me were heavy drinkers/clubbers, and that is a lifestyle that doesn't appeal to me at all, yet the match-making system does not pick up on things like this.

So all I had left to do with my FULL membership is browse through a bunch of cheesy taglines and blurred out photos, with a percentile match (that meant nothing) next to each one. How on earth could I possibly make much of an informed decision?

Again, even though in theory, the option of allowing only selected members to view your photos should be a good thing, it is counter-productive. Other sites which don't have this feature allow you to actually SEE the person you're reading about in the profile. With this site, all I have are blurred photos and vague descriptions to go on.

I also cannot even consider anyone outside of the 30-35 age range because the matching system won't let me. And the total number of matches is far less than you'd get on even a BRAND NEW site, because you're not allowed to look at more than the few profiles that are matched to you.

In sum, while this site does cover a lot of things pretty well, the inability to choose for yourself who captures your eye renders this whole site almost useless. I've spent more time writing this review than I would need to explore everything I could on there.

Oh, and one final thing - although you are able to join with just a couple of clicks you cannot cancel without PHONING their customer service team. This should help illustrate the motives of the people who run this site.

In summary, I would not recommend Dating Direct Affinity to a friend.
